The Mississippi emcee/producer Big K.R.I.T. has just released his free album (don't call it a mixtape), ReturnOf4Eva, which also happens to be the name of the first track to his earlier release, Krit Wuz Here, in 2010. K.R.I.T. has gained much critical acclaim from the tightly constructed soundscape of Krit Wuz Here, with many praising his dual aptitude in both production and lyrical prowess. With much hype and anticipation for what to expect on ReturnOf4Eva, from the first listen K.R.I.T. does not disappoint.

His production on this latest effort reveals growth in his production, with a more introspective look at the daily struggles and concerns of a Black man in America as it pertains to family, relationships, reputation, and self-respect, while also allowing the southern rapper braggadocio to reverberate throughout. It also seems that K.R.I.T. has expanded his production pallet, with more synthetic pad flourishes that blend with the soulful samplings, as well as turntablist scratches which wasn't evident in his earlier work, giving his production a more authentic Hip-Hop feel to it.

Whereas in Krit Wuz Here you could hear the influence of UGK and Outkast, in ReturnOf4Eva the influence of Kanye West (a fellow emcee/producer and Def Jam labelmate) is hinted at, from K.R.I.T.'s first forays into singing, of which you can admire his soulful stirrings, to choice of sentence structures in some of the songs' lyrics, which can almost feel like he's trying to invoke the conceptual and visceral sound of West's Late Registration or Graduation, more so the former in my personal opinion.

All in all it's easy to see that I'm cosigning the #returnof4eva campaign. I definitely can vouch for this release, and I commend Sha Money XL for the smart move in deciding to sign K.R.I.T. as newly appointed V.P. of A&R at Def Jam. Much praise has been given to this release from various critics, so there's no doubt everybody is waiting for K.R.I.T.'s Def Jam debut. Until then, download this and peep that other southern symphonic, Chevy door slammin', playerific pimptastic Mississippi magic!

Right off the bat, I want to congratulate Mr. Jaco for fighting for his right not to get pimped by the system he became entangled with for so many years, with their nonchalant unwillingness to produce and release his album without getting more hands into his pockets. However futile the fight turned out to be in the end.

Now let me really speak my piece. This is not the album Lupe intended for "Lasers" to be. It's too pop. The songs showcased are incongruent to his style and subject matter; they're just not his, he didn't own them. The ordeal alone of hearing him trying to conform to this sugar pop bullshit music was nauseating. I'm tempted to think that Wasalu felt the same way about it since he has repeatedly panned it since it leaked.

Nor has he really promoted it during his press tour efforts, which is the ultimate shame, really. Even if it is a bastard child product of rape by the music industry and its financial backers, why would you ever shit on your creation? Any success it receives from that point would be bittersweet. Yeah, the fans get what they've petitioned for, but is this what they necessarily wanted? Is this the sequel to "I'm Beaming" or "Shining Down"? Thank God that those tracks were packaged with the deluxe edition at least. But how can you be proud of what you deride and constantly put down? I think that is a bad stance to be upon your own creation.

Now the suicide shit about not being on a Bruno Mars record (sorry B.o.B.)... that's not <strike>The Cool</strike> even my business to talk on.

Nevertheless, I will be picking this up at my nearest Best Buy.

Will it be listening to it when I get it? Nah. I already did (<strike>Thanks, Bootleggers!</strike>) and, yeah, nope.

I'll be listening to "Food and Liquor" and reminiscing, fantasizing on what "Lasers" could have been.
Sound like an intelligent avenue to take for the release of an album, which is surprising in these days to see when labels are scrambling to find better ways to market and promote sales of records. I personally think this should be way more than enough to convince the label to take leverage of this opportunity for close to zero costs in publicity for a completed album by a well-received and acclaimed artist under their stable. We'll have to see if this even hold an iota of significance to the powers that be up at Atlantic.
Was peeping the lucid fantasies of Mr. Louis the King Jr. today documenting various historic icons who fashioned the original watch of luxury, Rolex. There was a time it was the ultimate status symbol that the nouveau riche Hip Hop community embraced and assimilated into their repertoire. Now it's plain-looking next to the new expensive shit they put out to fully illuminate wrists. Still a nigga like me has dreams and in it I'm rocking a gold Rolex. Live and die by Rolex rules. Put that on Yukmouth and the Albulation Act of 1998. Best.... Interview... EVER!?!?!?

Ms. Laura Mitchell, the beautiful bald woman above and correspondent for Fake Shore Drive, had the opportunity of interviewing Def Jam recording artist and Maybach Music Group CEO Rick Ross during his tour through Chicago last week as he promoted the release of his fourth album, <strike>I Think I'm John Gotti</strike> Teflon Don. In the video below, Ms. Mitchell takes the time to ask the "Rosay adds Swagger", Diddy + Ciroc spokesman Mr. <strike>Ross</strike> Roberts about his feelings on overzealous fans permanently memorializing him in ink and skin, his connection to local hero Cap One, how political prisoner Larry Hoover inspired his musical career, his professional relationship with labelmate Kanye West, and his feelings on other Chicago artist and their relevance to his future recording plans. However, due to a hectic schedule along with an emergent condition, the interview was cut short so that Mr. Ross could procure immediate medicinal treatment. Take a look:

I personally think that given the obviously difficult assignment of interviewing the ever-evasive and notoriously cryptic Mr. Roberts-Ross, Ms. Mitchell held her own the best way she could and foremost demonstrated grace, poise and professionalism in the eye of the shitstorm that was <strike>Officer Ricky</strike> Rick Ross's fly-through-without-getting-shot-the-fuck-up promotional campaign in Chicago last week and I commend her for that effort. Mission accomplished and look forward to many more interesting and less ignorant interview with more relevant talent in the future, Ms. Mitchell, Mr. Nick Castle (videography) and Mr. Brandon Riley (video editing).
Sincerest thanks 2 Yotsuba&!

I saw this video online, thought it was cool, and posted it up to share with you haters. Simple and fair enough. FYI for gearheads: I actually have that Korg Electribe ESX1 groovebox under the bed presently serving as a dust magnet. Has the most wickedest sounds of my limited equipment collection thus far. It's small and yet has a hard metal body that's chromey in the back, steely in the front. Yeah I said it.

I am definitely anti-Apple on most things. Got the Ipod after the longest time. Eventually became a $400 paper weight/waste of money. I don't like macs, I'm a pc. So the Ipad is really fucking with my morals here. I hate what their products represent, yet what Oh No said kinda sums up what I was thinking was inevitable ever since I was tipped on ReBirth way, <strike>way</strike> back in the day: software is gonna kill the music industry. Let that marinate. I don't mean kill the artists or nothing, far from it. As a matter of fact, software has only expanded the horizons and opened up more aesthetic senses and sonic possibilities for artists, novice and fans alike.

However, the hardware industry is fucked. From CDs to MPCs, they're disposable arts like Masta Ace, in closets and under beds all across the world collecting dust and oxide. Just because they are too low in quality sound output to be so costly and unwieldy.

If you don't got any music instrument hardware yet, I don't suggest you do now because they're losing value like brand new cars off the showroom floor and out of the dealership parking lot. Unless you got the money to splurge on <strike>several</strike> numerous mid-range to professional equipment without putting a dent to your budget, then go all out my nigga. If you got the space for all that junk, make it your personal mission to turn your bedroom into the Hit Factory 2010 in the suburban Heartland of USA, just in microscale proportions. Be the envy of your musician friends, plus you'd be helping the economy, even.

Otherwise, if you just a virginal novice to this production landscape, explore your musical capabilities in a more frugal manner with the software versions like these Ipad app emulating all the hardware greats like the SP1200, MPC2000, and ESX1. Plus stock your laptop with production software staples like GarageBand, Reason and <strike>fruity loops</strike> FL Studio. Shit, we're in a recession. Save your money my nigga, <strike>torrent</strike> save your money.
It's been less than two years since Grammy® award-winning artist Adele released her debut album, 19, which features her very first song, "Hometown Glory", which she wrote at the tender age of 16 (...Amazing!). Yet who would've thought that same song would become as embraced by the Hip Hop community as it has, from artists and fans alike who have found inspiration from her simple yet powerful dedication to familiar surroundings and echoed memories of her childhood?

Here's Adele's "Hometown Glory" which has inspired many rappers of late.

I'm digging this right now. Yeah, I know a couple of other rappers who sampled the Adele track, but whoever did this beat flipped it the best IMO. Honest. Plus Arrogant spit the best over it. Pause.

And here are a few of the other rappers that flipped Adele's song that I know of:

There's lots more, trust me. Just hit up YouTube and you'll dig up a plethora of different beatmakers and rappers creating variations of this damn sample. Shout out to Noodles just for having so many dudes on your shit. <strike>Pause?</strike> Fuck it, you know what I'm saying.

Can't say that there's a bad one out of the bunch. Some actual visuals from a couple of them. Arrogant should consider it now that it's getting a few spins on Power 92.3FM Chicago. Look into that. I'm about to flip track 12 on 19 in <strike>fruity loops</strike> FL Studio in a minute.

*Late Bus with CoCo?

What better way to start the new year than with a couple of previously unreleased shit from 2007 (wtf?) by two of (arguably?) Chi-City's finest.

The first one is a scrapped track by Common <strike>Sense</strike> circa. Finding Forever, "Next Time" produced by Kon Man. It samples Sylvia Robinson's "Sweet Stuff" so it's got the sugar fiends hooked already to the boogie-da-boogie-the-beat (Sugar Hill, anyone?). Fuck ya then...

"Next Time" (via Real Hip Hop since 79)

The second one is basically a demo of a track Kanye did for the pop girl group Sophia Fresh.

God bless this man! Seems that Kanye was in the giving mood this holiday, and decided to volunteer with his snow bunny at the Los Angeles Mission this weekend.

According to Kanye, "It's just important [to give back] when you're very blessed,... [It's nice] to spread your blessings and take time out, especially during the holidays to appreciate people who never get that appreciation. It makes me feel really good to come out here, [with] my family, and I just thank y'all [the Los Angeles Mission] for allowing us to be apart of this."

Can't hate on that at ALL. God Bless You, Kanye and Mrs. West. (y'all know it's coming)
Tsk tsk...

Now not surprisingly the LASERS zealot himself had some choice words to speak on Elliot Wilson's duplicitous character (via lupefiasco.com):

"He talking about Lupe Fiasco by the way...ummm...Thanks I guess???

Why though?

Anyways, dude will stay present on the RR site next year because that's what you young bucks want."

Hmmm...I mean he has all the pertinent and professional information i.e. Ego v.s. Catalouge argument, not as good as Kanye, Joe Budden-esque derived fanbase, lack of classics etc, as well as all the right in the world not to post me up on his site. So why take the hypocritical stance of continuing to promote something that you thoroughly and strongly disagree with both personally and professionally?

Greed maybe? I mean my name brings traffic to sites. Now whether the amount of traffic is small or massive doesn't matter. It all translates into "impressions" which once accumulated translates into money. Impressions mean money. Money from advertisers and investors. So to be clear the equation crudely looks like this:

artists and all that surrounds them (good or bad, gossip worthy or uninteresting) = traffic = impressions = money!

Now we can all agree the most classic byproduct of money is GREED...so maybe its greed...keep him in the mix even though we don't like him just because he adds to the bottomline...say it aint so...and this leads to my next one...

Or what about just plain old honest phoniness, fakery & falsehood?...I mean thats what RUNS our industry...a lil money here and a lot of phoniness over there....all kept quietly under a smiley face until you leave the room and they got what they want out of you and then before you can even get to the elevator its fuck that nigga!...I mean to NEVER had liked someone means you didn't like them from the beginning...like from day one...to be safe lets say 2005...and how many times have I been in XXL under your reign? or how many posts have I had on RAPRADAR.COM since then?...hmmm...somebody somewhere is faking the funk...but hey thats how its is from the STREETS to the BOARDROOM...niggaz do fake shit all the time to get things done but niggaz dont ever NEVER wanna be called out as fakes or when they are on their phoney behavior especially when KEEPING IT REAL or REALNESS is the status quo and such a reputable status to have & maintain...so maybe someone is just being dishonest with themselves and needs to have a INTERNAL REALITY CHECK so they can just do the things that that person wants to do in full honesty & harmony with themselves...you know?...truth shall set ya free....

Ok what about public pressure?...pressure from the public...the public pressuring you to do something that you dont necessarily want to do or agree with for the sake of remaining in good favor or status with the public. Thats what runs the industry too...Customer is king and you are a servant to the public. That is such a position of great responsibility. So i hope that if some small cross section of the public humbly comes to request you NOT post anymore Lupe Fiasco material that the reaction to this public demand will be as eloquent and responsible as "I'll pass. Kiss my ass"...I mean that is what the "young bucks" want...and Lord knows I could use the exposure...

Why black out when you can just as easily shed light?...some people...i guess...

Happy Holidays Indeed!!!"

Never hesitant, B.Dot from Rap Radar took to neutralize Rap Radar's standing with Lupe Fiasco while also maintain that the H.Y.N.I.C. is free to his own opinion (via RR):

"Last night, Lupe Fiasco responded to Yellow Nigga’s “Blackout” rant at his home base. Sorry folks, but there’s no “beef”. As the saying goes, opinions are like— well, you know, and everyone has one. Even YN. Personally, I’m ambivalent towards Lupe’s music. One minute, I’m totally engrossed. (see: “Hip-Hop Saved My Life”) The next, I’m completely lost in translation (see: “Shining Down”).
Despite Elliott’s gripes, we’ve got a job to do. Personal feelings go the way of Ron Browz. At the end of the day, Lupe’s maintained his relevancy and earned some hardware along the way. As YN said, if the young bucks want ‘em, find him at this very URL. No Losers here."

Hopefully, no more words need to be exchanged between the two parties. This sites beginning to look like a LASERS fansite already. On to the next Chicagoan to Hate with Love.
It's very unfortunate this happened, but also that he tried that on a plane headed for Detroit. Us midwesterners probably think we're sheltered from such terrorist attacks because we're isolated from the coasts. But we heard that even in details surrounding the 9/11 attacks that Sears Tower was a supposed target.

Obviously this kid was a fool and a misguided one at that. His father is part of a corrupted government in an emaciated and thieving nation in Africa. For all the father's efforts to groom the kid, all he has produced is a spoiled privileged arrogant ignoramus that pretty much fucked up the frame of mind that the world has towards Nigerians more worse than those 419 emails.

I mean, the boy lived a high life going to school in London, living in an upscale neighborhood, and decided to pledge his allegiance to Afghanistan, a nation that wouldn't shed blood for his own country. The boy is a traitor to Africa in general, and Nigeria in particular, fucking bastard.

God damned I wish they had thrown his ass off the plane in mid-flight! Now international travelers have to go through more scrutinizing and semi-legal searches, more carriage restrictions, and I got plenty of folks that are gonna feel it in the days to come.

Thanks a lot, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. I hope they give you lethal injection for all your effort.

<div class="title" style="color: red; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
To Whom It May Concern...

<div class="author" style="color: red; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Posted by Lupe Fiasco
<div class="date timestamp" style="color: red; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">December 24, 2009
<div class="description" style="color: red; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For The Record:

The track "I'm Beaming" that was leaked last night was NOT authorized or intentionally leaked by myself or my company.

Plain and simple its STOLEN property. And this goes for ANY record or track that leaks or is made available for illegal download from this day forward.

Actions are being taken and the authorities have been notified.

As a personal plea to all my fans PLEASE DO NOT share, stream, or download any unauthorized or stolen Lupe Fiasco music.

A lot of time and energy goes into the creation of this music, not to mention large sums of money, money provided by my record company as well as from my own personal finances. My music is the product of my life. It means so much to me. I take pride in it and i also take pride in how it changes peoples lives and gives them hope. So to see it treated in this manner really numbs the soul. So many of my family and friends rely on me for their well-being and I rely on my music to give me the opportunities that allow me to provide for them.

So this one i'm taking personal. And I will do ALL that is in my power and my circle of influence to make sure that the persons directly or even remotely responsible for this and any future events involving the piracy and illegal distribution and solicitation of my music will be brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Both criminally as well as civilly.

With the history that surrounds the devastating and massive piracy of my first album i'm sure some of you can understand why this very harsh stance that is being taken up. And for those of you unsympathetic enough not to understand i can only compare it to someone breaking into your house and stealing everything not tied down or someone kidnapping you sister or brother and ransoming them back to you. A deep sense of helplessness. I hope you never have to feel this and i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Happy Holidays...

EVEN AT THIS TIME WE ARE NOT LOSERS...

Lupe Fiasco...Friend Of The People...

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Good thing I didn't. But I have to give him props for the lyrics to this song. Hope he figures that shit out. His talents are greatly needed and from what I heard, I definitely look forward to BUYING his latest album when it comes out. When that actually arrives... meh.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
